2013 LA Art Book Fair at MOCA

December 15, 2012 in artist books, books, events, photobooks, publishing

Printer Matter announced the first annual LA Art Book Fair this past Thursday on their Facebook page. The fair will take place February 1-3 (opening reception January 31), at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA in downtown Los Angeles.

As of right now I plan on going. Flights are reasonably priced, I’m just looking into my boarding options while I’m out there. Any hotel recommendations? I’ve never been to LA! Or, CA for that matter!

2012 NYABF

November 13, 2012 in artist books, events, photobooks

A couple of months ago I ventured to NYC for the 2012 NY Art Book Fair. Like last year there was just so much to see! I browsed, I shopped, I chatted, it was great.

I am putting together another post of the books I bought. Until then, did you attend the fair? What did you bring home with you?

sharing is fun

November 7, 2012 in my shop, photobooks, updates

I opened my shop a couple of months ago and it’s been FUN. Since the announcement, I have enjoyed chatting with folks about my books and sending them out into the world! As you know, this is my first online shop and the thrill of getting orders is still new and exciting. What is MORE exciting is knowing my books are out in the world. This is why I’m a maker!

Above is a pic I snapped on my iPhone yesterday packaging orders. I have been including a couple of my postcards in with the books along with a hand-writted note (on my letterpress cards I made last year). Details are fun too.

I Wish You Where Here

November 5, 2012 in photobooks, photography

I just backed the photobook project I Wish You Where Here by Luke Strosnider on Kickstarter! I’m really excited to see the finished book (published by Anchorless Press). I had the pleasure of viewing a lot of these photographs a couple of summers ago in Jason Fulford’s VISUAL LANGUAGE workshop at VSW and they tell a compelling story. Also, they’re striking photographs – the one above with the blue coat is one of my faves. Be sure to watch the video to see more of the images and find out more about the project!

MY SHOP!

September 17, 2012 in artist books, my shop, photobooks, updates

Nope, this is no joke. Though, it totally could be! I have been talking about opening a shop for YEARS and now it’s really really happening friends!

What am I going to be selling in my shiny new shop?

My book Apology is currently available for sale. My book Landed is coming soon!

I also plan on selling a couple of giclée prints from my current photographic work, and a giclée print of “Philip”. More info on prints soon!

My shop is going to be thoughtfully curated. I will not be selling everything I make, just the special pieces I want to share.

Why did I decide to go with Big Cartel?

Like I said, I have been thinking about opening an on-line shop for years and have considered a lot of different options. I decided to go with Big Cartel because it allowed for customization while also being super user friendly – I’m new to all of this! The customization option was key. I want you to feel like you’re at my shop. You’ll notice the look and feel of my shop is very much like this blog.

What is going to happen with my Etsy shop?

Last year I created my Etsy shop and have had the “COMING SOON!” message up ever since. I am a huge fan of Etsy and appreciate the community they have built. I am keeping the shop up with that “COMING SOON!” message because I see myself using it in the future for a special side project. It will not however be a space to buy my prints and books – that’s what my Big Cartel shop is for!

I AM SO EXCITED and I hope you are too!

Tell mum everything is ok (No.5 – Stigma)

April 26, 2012 in photobooks, photography, publishing, zines

“Tell mum everything is ok” (No.5 – Stigma) was another publication from Millennium Magazines that I instantly added to my must-have list.

“Tell mum everything is ok” is a fanzine published by Éditions FP&CF.

Check out the full list of contributors for this issue. Lots of talent in there!

my final maquette of Landed

April 21, 2012 in artist books, photobooks, photography, updates

YES! Folks, above is the final maquette of my book Landed. I got it back from the printers yesterday and there is a slight adjustment to the colophon I want to make and then I will be DONE. I have been working on this book for about a year now and the fact that I have the edit and sequence finished feels SO GOOD.

Once I get the final book back from the printer I’m going to photograph it and make a video flip-through to share on my website. Landed will be for sale in an open edition the beginning of May! More info. coming soon!
